Chess
This week, for the first time in history, my city of Strumica organized the national chess championship. Our chess club “Carevi Kuli” was the host and co-organizer. This filled me with immense joy.
More than 100 kids from all over Macedonia came to compete. Five categories in youth chess players under 18y. Over 6 days they won, lost, learned, and advanced as chess players and persons. Some kids left the championship with medals, others with tears, but all of them with hearts filled with joy, satisfaction, and gratitude.
Our club is one of the youngest in the country, but it is also one of the most promising.
Just like the previous year, we collected a few medals (silvers no less) and achieved second place in different categories, This was sufficient to receive an invitation to participate to the World Championship in Chess. This makes my heart sing, to see the success these children have achieved. It encourages me to devote more time and support even more talented players.
As long as there are people who help because they want to, because they care, because they must, I see this club surviving. After all, if we don’t do it, who will?
We are the next generations our fathers hoped to change the country. We are the future kids now. So let’s make the change together. Wherever we can.
