Another great event this week.
The Aspire with Kevin O’Leary, Eddie Wilson, Natasha Graziano and many others.
It was great to hear some of their advices.
I am sharing the 10 rules Robert Herjavec shared with us. The shark tank star, a person also born in Yugoslavia, and became one of the biggest businessman and investors, selling his second company at age of 38 for 30 M. dollars.
Let’s learn from him:
1. Branding is important – what is your personal brand?
• I so agree with this. It is my commitment in everything I do. I strive to give my best so I can create a brand that speaks for itself. That can be replicated in any business.
2. Dose of reality – people would rather take a fake YES, than a real NO.
• Unfortunately. We have to be careful who do we ask for opinion. Times change really fast. Make sure you have the right people beside you. Appreciate their opinion and be prepared to change yours. Only a fool doesn’t change his mind.
3. Only takes one YES – There will be many NO’s (even from a Shark), but you only need one YES!
• Starbucks’ CEO Howard S. approached 242 investors and most of them rejected him, but he finally made it.
4. Finish strong – it doesn’t matter how you start. it only matters how you finish
• Robert was born in Yugoslavia in a very small house, almost like a barn. But that didn’t stop him becoming one of the most successful businessmen
5. Fear – get over it
• It is the main reason that stops us from succeeding. The more we try, the less fear there is
6. Speed – go fast but don’t crash
• It is not my virtue. I play safe and slow. As Robert said it…when going with high speeds, you have to be very focused, since a small mistake, blinking might end in a crash
7. Don’t do it alone
• I could never do it alone. I see it as my strength being blessed with the right people along the road. Many of the achievements are mostly because of great people around me, in any field.
8. Myths – don’t believe them
• I will say my view on this, from a person growing in a developing country. So many people have laughed at me, told me I am crazy, it can’t be done, do not hope, do not dream …. I never believed. I love going against the odds. The satisfaction is even greater that way.
9. Time management is survival
• No comment – I think I am still very bad at this ☹
10. Greatness requires purpose
• Why do you do it? We all have it in us. Just make a plan and go for it. For me it is my family and being the change. Be a good example for my kids and for the youth that will become the next leaders. Integrity and honesty.
At the end he answered the same question as the other participants. What is money to him. The answer was repeated a few times, and it is … freedom. The second option was security. I am not sure what would I choose. In Macedonia, I think we need it mainly so we can provide ourselves with better health options. But, also to have the option to make an impact. To be part of the change.
